OUR PROGRAMS

**NEW** Club Modernization Pilot Program

The Lindsay Skating Club is excited to announce our participation in Skate Ontario's Club Modernization Program.  This program provides the Club with mentorship and support through new initiatives that combine key elements of on-ice coaching with off-ice physical literacy. Hand in hand, these 2 key elements, on-ice, and off-ice programming, will develop the skater’s physical literacy, athletic development, and a renewed passion for the sport.

Learn to Skate programming

What will you learn?

A complete series of balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning that pertain to hockey, ringette, speed skating and figure skating as well as general recreational skating. CanSkate uses nationally-tested and proven curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in developing stronger basic skills and developing them faster.

What can you expect?

Action, movement and fun! Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, upbeat music and a wide variety of activities that create a motivational environment and promote learning. Badges, ribbons and other incentives are used to benchmark skaters’ progress and reward effort and participation.

Club Modernization & Physical Literacy

The Lindsay Skating Club is proud to be part of the Skate Ontario Club Modernization Program, designed to give skaters the best possible training experience—both on and off the ice.

Under this model, all STARSkate sessions are fully coached in a team-teaching environment, allowing skaters to receive high-quality instruction and feedback throughout their ice time. Private or semi-private lessons may occur within these sessions, but unlike traditional models, there are no additional coaching fees—everything is included in your program cost. Sessions may also include independent practice time, where skaters can work on skills they’ve learned while coaches remain available for support.

Physical Literacy is highly recommended for all STARSkate skaters and is included as part of our programming. This off-ice training develops strength, balance, flexibility, coordination, and helps prevent injuries. Training activities may include dynamic warm-ups, core and leg strength work, flexibility and mobility drills, balance challenges, off-ice jump technique, and the use of tools such as iSpinners to enhance spin position and control. It is billed separately on your invoice as a $100 seasonal fee, which covers all weekly Physical Literacy sessions for the season. While not classified as “mandatory,” it is highly recommended, is automatically included for all skaters and cannot be opted out of.

This modernized approach ensures every skater:

  • Receives consistent, high-quality feedback

  • Develops strong physical and athletic foundations

  • Gains independence through guided self-practice

  • Follows a clear training plan with support from their coaching team

  • Trains in a positive, athlete-focused environment
